Hi folks,

Anyone know a good car audio specialist in Munster (Kerry/Limerick/Cork) to install a Denison ice-link plus ipod adaptor on the factory radio of a 2005 VW Golf? I tried all the VW dealers but they unsuprisingly have refused to do it. I could do it myself but I would rather have someone who knows what they are doing to install it!!

Hiya,

Halfords definitely fit these but I'm not sure if you need to have bought the equipment from themselves or not. (Sounds like you already have the gear..?)

Having said that, when Himself enquired about getting the same rig-out fitted in his motor, our local Halfords had to call a 3rd party who seemed not be a staff member to arrange for them to contact Himself directly to arrange a date & time to fit and did so without us actually buying the unit.

Maybe your local store would give you the details of whoever they use? (Failing that, you could be a bit schnakey and "enquire" instore about the system, arrange a callback from their fitter and take it from there..? Not that I could possibly condone such a course of action.) From their website, looks like they've places in Limerick, Cork and Tralee if any of those is convenient to you.

Hi Lynnie,

Rang Halfords and they won't do it either!!! It's looking more likely I'll be doing it myself! Thanks for the advice though! Any more suggestions out there???????

Would an FM transmitter not suffice or do you specifically want the integrated solution?

Hi Clubman,

I have used FM transmitters before and don't really rate them (I always seemed to have quality and interference issues). I'm really looking for a solution that allows control (or at least partial control) of the ipod through the factory radio. After much research, the adaptor I bought (denison ice link plus) seems to be the best one for my circumstances. By the way, if anyone has used this particular adaptor and has some feedback on it I would be glad to hear it....

Hi, I have done this on a Passat. Bought the removal keys on ebay and followed the instructions. The unit is connected where a CD changer would normally be connected.
It was very straight forward. Give yourself enough time and make sure you take note of how you removed parts to ensure you can re fit them.

The sound qualtiy is escellent and playlists are selected using buttons 1-6

I was disappointed with an FM transmitter I tried.

Hope this helps.

Theres an excellent specialist fitter in Cork city, think its Patricks Quay, guy called Eddie O' Sullivan, trades as car stereo & Alarm he should be able to do the job for you.

I too have a passat, if you have a cd changer connect is it possible to connect the ipod as well?

Well folks, yesterday evening I decided to take things into my own hands and do the job my self! I got a few installation guides from some vw orientated websites and after about forty five minutes had the ipod adapter installed and fully functioning! Mark V Golfs are much less user friendly to install stuff than the previous models. I literally had to take most of the upper dash off in order to access the radio!!! This is really the only dicey part of the whole process as you have to figure out where the release clips for the dash components are as well as being gentle as the various bits and pieces are fairly fragile. All in all it's nowhere near as daunting as I thought it would be and am pretty chuffed with my new found technical skills!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone who replied to this topic it was most appreciated!

No if you have a cd changer connected it is not possible to connect an ipod adaptor
