Internship - Not Jobsbridge

Can anyone tell me if it is possible for a company to take on an Internship for a period without going through the Jobsbridge situation.

A friend has just recieved an interview for an internship position, but he is unemployed just a short time and is currently supporting himself and would like to do so without going through the social welfare system.

I also understand that one has to go through a period of 78days without getting the internship via Jobsbridge. In other words we require you to sit on your This post will be deleted if not edited to remove bad language for 78days and do nothing.

Any thoughts, could a company go around this and take on an Intern without this eligibility criteria.

If he is supporting himself - not claiming welfare - then it's nothing to do with the social welfare office? I know a few people doing internships they found themselves and are not claiming any welfare payments.

The problem is if he needs to sign on soon- I'm not sure if time on a internship would count towards the 3 months unemployed to be eligible for jobbridge. I'd call them and ask

So it is possible to be on an Internship programme with a company that has nothing to do with the Jobbridge Internship programme. Could you tell me if they applied to the companies directly?

Is it possible to write to a company outlining that he is willing to do an Internship for a period of 6-9 months just to gain the experience, but not through the Jobbridge programme?

There is no requirement for a company operating an internship program to go down the Jobbridge route. So yes, it's possible.

Leo thanks for that. How best is it for him to convince the company to take him on in the Internship programme, when they seem to be pushing the eligibility criteria for the Jobbridge Programme.

He would not be your normal young Intern, he would have 10 years experience in another industry, but would be mature and from the location, hence why he is pushing to get this intern position.

He has also been offered another internship position, but this is not in depth pharmaceutical like the other Plant. The position was offered to him today, following an interview before xmas.

Is it best to write a letter to the Plant?

If they're pushing the Jobbridge program, then they are getting these interns for free essentially. So for this particular company, your friend would be competing against these people for available positions. Can they afford to work for nothing?
