Internet provider hounding me for money

Approximately 2012 I signed up with an internet provider. The internet package I received was suitable for my needs at the time; thought the service could not have been classified as reliable. I called them up and asked them to cancel the service. The telephone operator told me to write in and it would be cancelled. I did and presumed it was ceased - D/D etc. was also cancelled.

Some months ago I received legal correspondence from this internet providers solicitors demanding a few hundred euro. I made contact with them and informed I owed no money. I never heard again.

I am now being hounded by the internet company who say they never received the letter of service cancellation and in lieu are charging me for internet usage.

Could somebody please advise on how I should handle this please?
 
Just send a letter to the solicitors outlining the facts as you have presented them here. Confirm dates etc. of each action taken buy you and that (presuming you did!) you changed to a new provider. Refute any claim from them as you complied with what you were told to do when you rang to cancel the service.
 
Did you receive reminders on the outstanding funds in light of the D.D. being cancelled.

You could also try ringing ComReg to see what their advice is.
