Internal Sliding Doors - cavity block wall suitable?

Hi,

We are in the middle of a self-build and want to put in sliding internal doors between our sunroom and sitting room to save space.

There is a block cavity wall dividing the two rooms, just wondering would you need to build a false wall with plaster board at one side to make the casette for them to slide into?

Any fit one of these have any tips etc. Are they problematic at all, would we be better off sticking with the normal double doors?

Not a huge fan of the folding doors but think the sliding ones could work really well for us,

You can build a stud like frame that can be fixed to the blocks onto which the sliding doors can be mounted so when they are open they dissappear in behind the slab. they work really well and are a great space saver. Well worth the extra few bob its costs to get them done.

Hi I have a similar situation
Its a new build bungalow
the wall consists of just a single standard block leading from my hallway to the sitting room
Can anyone tell me of the problems that might be encountered, and what else do I need to watch out for ?????????
I'm finding that std. hinged double doors are not as practical as they look.

Also does anywone have contact details of suppliers of same or would a good carpenter be able to make them up and install them ??

can we use the cavity of the wall to slot the door into?
i.e. remove the insulation and use the gap to slide the doors into?

I wouldnt think so, you have to hang a rail for the doors to slide into, and you wont be able to do this with an existing cavity.

You can hang the sliding doors on to the face of the solid wall. It is important to ensure that if you want to create a cavity slide that you choose a door gear wisely as you don't want to have to knock down the stud to adjust. If creating a cavity, it is important to line the inside face of the studwork aswell as you can see into cavities with certain doors. The Henderson Husky 100 door gear is ideal for this.
