Insurance Transfer Query

We are about to purchase a car from a garage.

When me and my wife pick up the car on Wed of this week, we will need to be able to drive both cars (old and new) for a couple of days before giving the old car to my brother.
We have about 6 months left on the insurance with the old car. We plan to transfer it across and expect to pay a bit extra (as its a better car).

How would we arrange to be insured for both cars for two days (ie until we drive it to my brothers gaff)

Do insurance companies generally do things like this - or would they be awkward and say that the insurance must be for one car or the other and not on both and that we must take out a new yearly policy for the second car (even if it is for just 2 days).

Or would they allow us to pay pro-rata for the two days on the additional car.

Could do with a bit of heads up before contacting insurance company.

Thanks.

I think the insurance company will let you insure one of the cars for a few days at a cost. Just give them a call and see what they say

Cost me 70 euro to transfer 6 months remaining insurance to better car.

Cost 30 euro !! for 48 hours cover of the old car until I drive to bro's house.

How can they justify 30 euro for 2 days insurance ?! We dont really have a choice who we go with as we have to go with the same crowd we are currently insured with.

Anyway its done now.

Most likely 'Administrive Charges' which will be more-or-less the same whether they set up a policy for 1 day or 1 year
