Insurance obligations towards occasional worker

Put an ad. in the paper for a handyman to do two days work doing gardening and cleaning gutters. Had many replies, quoting €8 - €10 p.h. which seem fine.

My query is:

How can I ensure insurance cover for the person in case of accident?

It probably seems a trivial matter to most, but I have no idea how to go about it.

Thanks.

This should really be in the insurance section.

If you have household insurance you will be covered under the liability section.
If in doubt contact your insurer or broker

he may be an EMPLOYEE or he may be AN INDEPENDENT COBTRACTOR.

If you have both building and contents insurance, it is covered under MOST policies, but check your wording to be sure.

if you do not have any house insurance, then it would be expensive to get the cover.

If you are a self employed or company director, you may have cover for the tasks under your BUSINESS EL&PL policies, but again check wordings to be sure.

Also ,remember just because he has an accident, does NOT make you liable. Your policy covers your LEGAL LIABILITIES not your MORAL RESPONSIBILITIES.
