Insurance for one weekend

I am hoping to go to England and buy a car the weekend after next, I have no insurance as yet, and am not sure what type of car I am going to be purchasing?

Is there any way of me getting insured for a car for that week/weekend only and then I will get back and check out quotes here on my return
 
Do you have anyone with open driving cover on their policy who could drive for you? I don't think you could drive yourself on open driving as this normally excludes any car you own.
 
Not too good at insurance matters, I drive one of my boss's car a lot for work as he has an open policy on his car but does that mean he has to go to England to pick it up or can he put me on his insurance for the week
 
The open policy on his car covers his car, not him as a driver. You need to find someone whose own policy covers them to drive other cars.
 
Which he might well have, but does that mean only he can bring it back or can I be put on his policy?? Otherwise whatever about the reg of the car I am getting I am very certain of the make and model as I will not be looking at any other type of car over there. Could I just get the open insurance myself??

Open driving cover normally covers only cars which you don't own - so if you have purchased the car in the UK, you wouldn't be able to drive it back under your own open driving cover. Unless there is some way you can defer the purchase until you get it back here, but I guess you'd have to have a very trusting dealer.

Check with your own insurance company to see if they will cover you on the basis of make/model.
 
Why not go to Uk and test drive the car. You should be covered under the dealers insurance. When you purchase the car have it picked up at the dealers and shipped to Dublin. Get someone else to drive it home for you and then insure it here. I have cars regularly shipped to Dublin and I pick them up there. If you need any help or info let me know.(About £180 Stg to pick up within 30 miles of Liverpool and shipped to Dublin).
