Installing ones own kitchen

The weekend past, I removed an old kitchen and tiles from my flat which is in the UK.
Took about 10 hours !

The next bit is to install a new kitchen.
I've never installed a kitchen before, but I'm sure I can do it, I can see how the old one was put it, and I'm very careful re planning and researching..

The only problem is that I dont really have any help.... I'm thinking that certain aspects of the install requires 2 people....the upper kitchen cupboards are surely too heavy to install by one person...

Any thoughts about this....am I better off just to hire someone.....has anyone reading this installed a kitchen entirely by themselves with no help ?

I've done a couple on my own, so it's certainly possible. You'll just need to plan a little more for the wall cabinets. Fix a batten to the wall at the level of the bottom of the cabinets, this will support them while you fix them in position.

Start in a corner if possible so the first cabinet is supported on 2 sides. Have a few spring or quick release clamps handy to hold subsequent ones.

Make sure you're comfortable lifting the weight of the cabinets to head height first though, and don't be a hero, if you're struggling, get some help.

Hi, There are various different hanging systems for kitchen cabinets built into the unit, and to avoid duplicating work it is best to choose the cabinet and see what hanging system they have, but they would all be a variation of Leo's above where you only have to lift the cabinet up and engage the mechanism for the unit to stay up.

Hi,

Here is my suggestion for you in installing kitchen cabinets.

Safety should be your first concern when you are installing cabinets. Find a skilled person for this job. If a family member or friend had work done, see if they can recommend someone to install the cabinets. It is important to use the proper fasteners and screws that are suitable for cabinets. Use new screws and make sure they are the right size for cabinets.

Set the corner cabinets first, since it will be impossible to move the wall if you end up with less space than anticipated! Subsequently install the other units around them. If you have voids between the units or need to adjust one down to allow for the wiring or plumbing, place a wood panel in-between the units.
