installing an extractor fan in a utility room

Hi
I have mould growing on the walls in my utility room due to condensor drier. There is a small window but it does not seem to be enough to remove condensation from the room. I am thinking of installing an extractor fan in the wall. Has anyone done this? Also we would need to make a hole in the wall, wire in the fan etc. so I am wondering how much it would cost?

it is quite easy to install a fan to cut the hole you will need a drill and core bit that will drill your hole at 115mm, fit a pipe approw 340mm long seal it with foam or silicone, fit your vent cover on the outside now the fan can be powered from you light (ceiling rose) but it needs an isolater switch just above the fan this will make the fan work when the light is on, or you could bring a live feed from the light and bring it to the isolater switch at switch level approx 1200mm of floor so you can power it on and off with ease now for cost it depends on where you want to hide the cables by cutting the wall or run the cables in trunking on the surface I would think you could get this done surface mounted for about €200 to €250 but a lot more to chase the walls as a sparky would not do the patching or chasing it is hard to get them to do anything. Do not forget to ensure that make up air can enter the utility room (like through gap under the door) nearbye window ajar. or ideally a low level vent in the external wall.

Neglect the above and your next post will be about removing fungus /mildew
 
There is a window in the wc beside the utility room (both are small). At present we leave the toilet door open and the window. However we get a lot of condensation from the drier and mildew/mould has started to grow on the walls of both rooms. I hope that if I have an extractor fan and the open window that there will be a better flow of air to stop the condensation?

You need to fit a venting kit and if its not long enough to reach the window then join two together.
 
What is a venting kit? I was going to have the fan separate to the window but perhaps I need a venting kit?

If your tumble dryer is not a condenser model (inbuilt extraction of steam) then the [broken link removed] directs the steam either out a window or you can create a hole in the wall and fit the venting kit into this.
