Hi folks I'm in love with beautiful wildflower green roofs. I've had varied quotes but the thought has struck me, why cant I let my builder install. Does anyone have experience with A) green roofs general and B) installing themselves. Cheers

I installed one once with a friend on his house. Very easy, low cost and effective.

It was ply wood, old carpet, plastic membrane and then just onion bags full of soil with a seed mixed in, laid out as bricks, about 4 inch thick. Worked too...

The only tricky thing was making sure water run off at the bottom could effectively escape and the soil did not wash away.

Install a sedum roof and you will love it.

Bees will love it for the lovely flowers and then the splendid colour change when it turns to Autumn and then Winter is fantastic.

We have our large chicken coop built with a sedum roof on it.

But I would speak to the professionals 1st before you do anything,as its a roof for a new build so it will be load bearing too.
