Inset stove - Does it create a lot of dust?

Hi

This may be a silly question BUT

I am looking into getting an inset stove but a friend of mine said that since she got hers the place is covered in dust from it . Has to clean/dust each day .

This has turned me off it as I currently have a coal fire and if it is any way windy the smoke comes down the chimney and leaves a layer of dust everywhere
Was hoping getting an stove would stop all that .

If anyone here has an inset stove can they advise if they too find it dusty ?

I have a free-standing stove, but from a dust point of view its the same as an inset.

No dust at all during operation, but dust and ash does get into the room a bit when cleaning it out. Overall, much less than an open fire, but you are burning solid fuel, you have to expect a bit of dust and ash.

I clean out the stove the old-fashioned way with a brush, pan and a bucket for the ash. I haven't bothered with an ash vacuum, but it might be a good idea if you wanted to reduce the ash issue further.

We have an inset stove (Boru Croi Beag) and, as above, there is a bit of dust when cleaning it out, but no more than with a regular open fire. No dust when the thing is burning, just great heat

I have a free standing stove......just installed before Christmas.

I didn't go for an Ash Vac as I was told they clog continuously and eventually more time is spent clearing the filters than clearing out the stove!

If a stove is installed correctly with the right liner and anti downdraught cowel and correctly insulated then you wont have problems with draughts and wind and dust/ash blowback.Me suspects that your "friend" has a poorly installed and fitted stove.

I have an 8kw inset stove and it does create a bit of dust and ash residue on the hearth and plinth below,but thats due to me shoveling and cleaning it out every few days from buring wod,coal and briquettes.


Do I care that I have to sweep up a small bit of dust off the plinth and hearth below??

HELL NO.


Do I love the fact that my inset stove is a great visual sight and feature and that more than 70% of the heat generated is going into the house and not up and out the chimney??
