Insect found in jam

just having my breakfast and found a dead insect in the jam. My question is who do I contact about this to ensure that a proper investigation is made as to how this happened, rather than the issue being fobbed off with a standard letter.

There's usually a consumer contact on the label on the jar, I would start there.

Can you be sure the insect didn't enter the jar after you purchased it?

I can't be 100% sure it didnt enter the jam in my house, but i could probably be 98% sure. So should i just send off a letter to the manufacturer, will in include the insect?

Phone them. I did when I found a small bit of metal in a milk-carton. They sent a rep round and I later got a letter to say that it came from one of their machines. They were a bit wary when I first spoke to them though!

Did someone inform the dead insect's family?

Any word back from the manufacturers?

Seemingly they said "please keep it to yourself or everybody will want one...".

...could be worse....what if you found half an insect there!

What exactly is it you want. Is it
(a) Compensation? Its just a pot of jam, relax and throw it out, why get worked up over it.

(b) Assist with QC in the jam making process in the hope that the next pot of this brand has no insect? Then write them a nice letter telling them about the deceased.

If it is just your sensibilities that are offended, then get over it. It is this agressive approach to little things that can make life needlessy difficult for others. Life's too short, only worry about serious things.........

How did you arrive at the 98% figure?

As Bluespud said it depends on what you want to make of it. If you want an independent investigation of a significant problem you should contact your local Health Authority and speak to the Environmental Health Officer They will collect the sample and take it up with the supplier and manufacturer -at no cost to you. If you are into compo you take it to a solicitor who will tell you to get an expert analysis and come back to him if it is unfaourable - all at your expence of course.

I'd think twice about that - like Rafaila Cojocaru, your insect deserves more respect.

You really have too much time on your hands!;)
Not related to Clubman, are you?

Could be this was the origin of the buzzing noise in your dishwasher??:D
