Inheritance Tax query

I have a question regarding inheritance tax. An in-law of mine was approached by a former employee who wanted to borrow some money to pay inheritance tax by it's impending due date.
This man is a non-national who has been living in Ireland for two years and the deceased is said to be his uncle who was living somewhere in Africa at the time of his death. He informed my in-law that if he fails to pay the inheritance tax by the due date then he would not be entitled to any of his inheritance. Is this possible?? I would imagine that you would only have to pay interest on the outstanding amount if you were late with the payment.
Does this sound like a scam?
 
It does sound like a scam, but out of Africa, who knows? The employee must get independant information about his uncle before considering any payments. If I were your in-law I would not be advancing the loan.

This isn't even a current employee, but a former one (who probably already has their one way ticket booked!!)
 
Thanks for the replies. I managed to see some of the "documentation" tonight and it was laughably bad. Just your basic 419 scam. The employee doesn't appear to be involved though and he has already forked over about €20K which is a bit distressing...

Distressing for who ?? If you want to feel sorry for people hop into your car and drive around any city in Ireland and you will see dozens of people sleeping rough in the rain. Now that is distressing - not some clown that wants to bring his Inheritance problems to Eire go brea.
 
I meant distressing in a global sense (i.e. how can people be so gullible). Don't worry, I won't be losing any sleep over this chap's predicament.
