inheritance question

I have a rather "odd" question. My husband's father passed away about five years ago. I am fairly certain that he had a will, although my husband refuses to ask his mother about it. He died and left his pension, 401K, annuities, stocks, CDs, and life insurance, plus personal savings to my husband's mother. Their home was paid for. I'm estimating that with the life insurance, stocks, savings, and pension were worth $300,000 or more. My husban's mother recently remarried and sold her home, and recieved $250,000 free and clear becuase it was paid for. Where I'm concerned, is that my husband is an only child and he has recieved no inheritance. He refuses to ask his mother if there was something in his father's will. Is my husband entitled to an inheritance? Since he was the only other surviving hier, I cannot believe that he is not entitled to something, and I'm even more distrubed that his mother has not helped him financially, especially since her new husband is very wealthy.

It would appear that your late father in-law left everything he owned to his wife.....no strings attached. If anyone else had been named in his will the solicitor looking after his affairs would be legally bound to inform them.

I have a strong suspicion, based on the content of the original post, that the family concerned reside in the United States of America and Irish or European law may not necessarily be applicable.

Yes, we're in the US. Even if he had a will and left everything to his wife, would a biological child have rights to anything from their father? Parents were still married at the time of the death. How would you be able to find out what the will said? Is this public knowledge? The mother never discussed the will or any of the financial matters with my husband. But she is sitting on like $700,000 and isn't sharing any of it with my husband, and as the only child of this man, I feel that he should be entitiled to something.
