My Mother is the sole beneficiary to my Aunts Estate. There is a insurance policy, death grant and a bank account . Should my mother apply for a American tax identification number ?
My understanding is that if she does not ,30% will be withheld and 70%will be sent to my mother.
After the Tax is sorted out in America the remaining balance will be sent to my mother.
Am I right in this assumption?
