Information on the Dominican Republic

Hi there. I have read a number of previous posts relating to the Dominican Republic including the info offered by the CIA but was wondering if anyone had any experience of the resort at Cofresi Beach, Puerta Plata? We are a family of 5 with children aged between 8 - 11 and I'm trying to find out whether DR is a suitable destination for children and if not could anyone make a recommendation for anywhere else? We have found a beautiful house to rent but the fact that it comes with its own nightwatchman is putting me off
