Hey,

I am researching opening an indoor golf business in south Dublin. At the moment its only a concept so I am not trying to advertise anything. I have a survey at [broken link removed] that can be filled out if you get a chance. I just want to see if people think its a good idea.

Thanks

Brian

Hey,

I have changed the location of the survey and made it easier/quicker to fill out... Hope some others will give me some feedback even as responses to this thread...

Survey is here...

Meant to reply to your post before now..

What is your target market with this venture - are you aiming at golf fanatics, people looking for a night out, teenagers, Sky Sports fans, Wie Sports players?

As an avid golfer, I wouldn't be in the least bit interested in playing indoor golf. A friend of mine has Wie Sports and I played the golf on that one night and was bored after 10 minutes.

Sorry - not my cup of tea

I've tried these out a couple of times (wasn't the full swing one on that first website) and in the swing analysis mode it was helpful to graphically see my swing in/out and club face angles.
I corrected as per graphic and it helped swing,
have to say the correction felt wrong but I said I'd try it anyway and it worked. wouldnt have done it without analyser prompt.

less interested in the game playing side of it.

I know guys that sell these systems in europe, I can get details if you are sourcing suppliers for price / feature comparison.

Hey,

Thanks for responses. To give you a little more information on it. I was originally looking at full swing but I have recently being talking to About Golf http://www.aboutgolf.com and this is far superiour to the full swing. It uses radar technology used to track missiles to detect the ball motion and can accurately detect ball spin. Speaking to golfers who tried both they said that full wing was fine but things such as fade and back spin were a little lost where as About Golf had it to a tee. It also has fully 3D courses so if you hit a rock, it will calculate the angles and reflect this in your landing spot. Many of the others dont do this and the ball would just pass through it.

As for what I am targeting this at, it really is a broad spectrum. I only want the most accurate golfing simulator on the market as I am not after the one time users. I want golfers to feel that if they have a spare hour or two in a day and hadnt the time to play a course, that this would be the next best thing. It has to be realistic to attract avid golfers and from people I have spoke to this can be obtained with the About Golf.

I also want to attract people who might like to take up golf or people who fancy a bit of golf but are not members of a club. I want this to also attract people who want to try something different on a night out with work or with friends. There are a lot of people out there who would like to socialise without having to drink. There will be bar facilities but these are just ancilliary to the main business. I am not promoting this place as a bar, its a golf arena with additional facilities. It will also have an artificial putting green for practicing putting and from what I have researched, these can be as realistic as on the course.

Its not going to beat the course, but if it can rival it then why not. The Wii's and TV's are just for people who want to come along but not play golf but want to feel there is something for them too.

Has this changed your minds at all?

Nobody has mentioned the Gary Hendley Indoor Golf in the Dundrum Shopping Centre. Have you checked this out ?

I can't even find a website for it... does anyone know what it is like? Is there a few simulators and can you play with your own clubs etc?

There is also a new indoor golf facility between Naas and Newbridge (on the old road) at the Toghers roundabout. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it...

The place in Dundrum has a web site [broken link removed]. It gives you lots of info.

Brian,
Accuracy is important for game play but crucial for teaching, practising and club fitting using a Golf Simulator. Try www.golfprotech.com, suppliers to Golf Professionals wordwide and would be glad to show you their units in action in some of their locations in Ireland.
