India - Best time to visit?

What is a good time to visit India? Don't want it to be too hot or find myselt in the middle of a monsoon. Is September a reasonable time to go?

You need to be a bit more specific about where in India as it depends on what part you're planning on going to

I believe for many parts of India (especially the more southern parts like Kerala or Goa) September is still likely to be very wet and later in the year will give more reliable weather - might be better in other regions though.

If you are thinking of going to Goa & Kerala region I was there last October and the weather was great. That area has a wet season from about April to September.

Thanks for those comments. I would be touring around the Delhi, Jaipur and Udaipur areas.

As you can see September is probably not the best time - leaving it for a month or two it's likely to be drier and cooler
