A reminder to all amateur tax-filers to make sure to check the replies they get from the Revenue:
I just got my PAYE balancing statement from the Revenue (filed my form 11E before Aug31). They were looking for an extra €600 from me for 2005!
Checked the back of the form and realised they had somehow omitted my Income Protection (PHI) credits and my work-VHI tax credit as well!
Seemed strange as they were both on my 2005 and 2006 Tax Credit Cert.
I rang them and the (very helpful) guy said they just need a bank statement or any other proof of the PHI premium being paid per month. He could see the VHI credit so wasn't sure why it had been left out.
Once they get the docs (by fax is fine) they'll recalculate the balancing statement with the correct credits.
Even having done that, as far as I can make out I'll still owe them an extra €260 which seems quite bizarre since I'm PAYE, my taxable rental income was nil and I'm claiming €290 medical expenses??
