Revenue Return
Form 12, page 5, Section 10
asks for "Income from a trade or profession"

why can one have two seperate trades?
is it mandatory

Lets say I Give piano lessons, and do gardening, must I seperate my two occupations? I hope not...

(is it just me, or is the guide to completing returns fairly useless, surely someone else has though of my question before? or do others just do what "feels" right) LOL

the key question is do I have to seperate the trades

because if I do then its just going to get messy. Like I I buy a lever arch file r some other supply for the office and half use it for each trade then under which set of accounts should it appear.

It appears mandatory to separate the trades out on a Form 11. I'm wondering if you shouldn't be using the Form 11 anyway if you have two sole trader trades. Give Revenue a call and they will have an answer for you.

If you are told to use a Form 11, then you do have to separate out the trades and account for each separately. It's as messy to separate out between trades as it is allocating business/personal use to other things.
