In laws moving to Ireland - Medical Care

My in laws are thinking about selling up in UK and buying a place close to us in Ireland (to be closer to their small grandchildren)
They are recently retired having worked all their life.
My question relates to their medical entitlements if they move here.
In the UK the free NHS covers their doctors and any medicines they may need.
Would they be entitled to a medical card over here?

Medical card in Ireland is means tested.

Some years ago retired people moving to Ireland who were on an English State Pension with no other income could apply to the Irish government for a top up. This top up brought their income in line with the Irish State Pension income. A lot of changes have been made lately so I'm not sure if those rules still apply.....but worth checking it out as the UK State Pension is much lower than the Irish Pension....and the cost of living is much more expensive in the south of Ireland....

if:
1) Resident in Ireland
2) In receipt of UK pension
3) Not in receipt of Irish Social Welfare payment
Then you have EU entitlement to a medical card.

Go to HSE website and check on EU entitlement to a medical card. This is not means tested.
