I need to buy an item of hi fi equipment from the US. I would prefer to buy it here, or anyplace in Europe, but it is only sold in America.
I've been trying to find out by searching through posts here how much it's going to cost to get it through customs, but can't find solid info.
I know I'll have to pay VAT at 21.5%. That's fine. What I can't figure out is how much duty I will be charged? And also whether or not the vat is charged on the item+shipping+duty, or is it all calculated based on the declared value of the item, etc?
Are there any web-sites that can break this down, or calculate it for me? Citizen Info is vague. Revenue is info overload. Anything else.
The item costs $600 if anyone wants to have a stab at calculating a final figure.
