Importing car from UK

Hi all
Thinking about importing a second hand car from the UK. Question is from what month and year does the VRT and road tax drop to the CO2 based calculations? Is it cars registered from Jan 2008?

The VRT is based on CO2 now for all cars that are imported.

Tax is based on CO2 for cars that are registered from 1st jan 08.

So any car first registered in Jan '08 in UK and the imported to Republic has lower VRT and lower Road Tax.

Only if the C02 emissions are low!!!!!! There are alot of cars out there that have high emissions and therefore have higher VRT rates and higher road tax.
