Does anyone know how much VRT will be payable after VRT changes are introduced. I`m undecided as to Petrol/Diesel. Cureently stands at 30%.

need a bit more info, what model 2.0, 1.8 petrol, 1.9 or 2.0 diesel 115, 140 or 170 bhp, what year u thinking?

This site lists that car as 154g Co2

1.9 Diesel is currently in 25% band as engine cc is 1896. After July it will be in band C which is 20%

So 5% saving on VRT after July. Road tax on 2007 registered car will not be changing.

The 2.0 TDI 140 BHP version is 156g Co2, currently 30% vrt, will be moving to band D 24% after july, 6% saving.

Hope that helps!

If you import and register a secondhand (say 2006 for example) car here after July, will the road tax not be based on the new regulations, the same as if I bought a new car here after July?

Certainly helps thanks, if sterling rate stays like this and without doing any major calculations, it must make sense to import.

Goverment did a u turn on the road tax issue, originally all new cars and newly registered cars after july 1st, ie imports, were going to be on the new co2 based road tax.

Now it's all new cars and cars first registered in 2008, ie if you import an Audi A4 first registered on 2nd Jan 2008 it will be on new system. If you import one first registered on 15th Dec 2007 it will be on the current road tax system.

Thanks for that baz. I don't doubt your word, but am surprised, and pretty p***ed off too by this u-turn. I hadn't heard anything about it until now. Have to rethink the strategy again!

Is from 25% to 20% vrt not a 20% saving (on vrt) rather than a 5%?
Ie you would have paid 25% vrt now paying 20% so you are paying a fifth less.
eg
OMSP €10,000
VRT 25% = €2,500
VRT 20% = €2,000 ie a 20% reduction

thanks for VRT table - but what is difference between VRT cat & VRT rate. Is it the rate that is used when calculating whats due?

VRT Bands and rates

Band A (<=120 grams per km) - 14%
Band B (121-140 grams perkm) - 16%
Band C (141-155 grams per km) - 20%
Band D (156-170 grams per km) - 24%
Band E (171-190 grams per km) - 28%
Band F (191-225 grams per km) - 32%
Band G (>225 grams per km) - 36%

Are u committed to the 07? The new model is out this year so when trading on you will be selling the last of the old model at which stage a small bit more cash will get prospective purchasers the new model, Just someit to think about.

Dont forget to check xetrade or currency.ie for better steling rates. It'll usually result in a saving against the banks

no decisions made yet. but worth thinking about new model for futre trade on allright. Just on models with Sat navs - would these need to be adjusted for Irish roads or do they contain this info already?

It depends on the sat nav system but most tomtoms have maps for europe included.

If its an Audi from the UK it'll be a factory-fitted integrated Audi-branded unit, not a hand-held plug-in type. It should be possible to purchase whatever maps are not included or on-going map subscriptions as accessories from any Audi dealer. The car's radio aerial will also have an integrated GPS antenna.
