I've lived in Vienna since 2016.
I brought a 2007 Irish-registered car with me at the time, imported and registered it in Austria. I do low mileage and it's unsellable here as it's right-hand-drive so I've hung on to it more by accident.
I am probably moving home in summer 2023 for good and for a few reasons would like to drive back. I'll need a car when I get home anyway so for me the simplest thing seems to be to import it back to Ireland again. If I don't take it home I'd have to have it destroyed here in Austria and then buy something else in Ireland. I'd like to buy new in Ireland and my 2007 car will probably keep me going for 1-2 years.
The only issue is insurance. Would Irish insurers quote readily for an import of that age? If not, are there any brokers who would specialise? All I need is third-party as residual value is pretty low.
