I imported an item from the USA , not available in Ireland or the EU. It was a large item valued at about €350 plus carriage €100. I have received a bill from the courier for duty paid on my behalf for €150. I emailed and wrote to the customs addresses I found on the net but got no reply. What do I do now?..thanks
As an example, say your item had a duty of 5%,you add your purchase price plus all shipping and insurance costs. This amount is the base for the duty calculation.
So,€350+100*5%=22.5.Add VAT @23% on the base price plus duty (108.67).Add say 20 euro customs clearance charge, there's your €150.
As you have posted this in consumer rights, what right do you feel has been compromised?
