what do I need for Ferry
what paperwork will i need to colect it.
any known problems?

Your spelling is one :D

It's simple:-

1/. Identify your vehicle of choice. My advice is view a few.
2/. HPI it, and get it fully checked out. Inspection, service history, etc.
3/. Transfer/extend insurance. All you need for the ferry is a ticket to cover the size of vehicle you are driving.
4/. Paperwork is simple. Make sure transfer of ownership form is filled out properly, and that cert. of permanent export is sent off.
5/. Pay VRT the day after import. Put plates on, tax it and your away.

I imported a campervan from Germany this summer.

Key point is the weight:

Over 3.0 tonnes unladen VRT = €50 appprox

Under 3.0 tonnes unladen VRT = 13.3% of OMV (open market value in Ireland)

A camper over 3.0 tonnes is a pretty big camper... I imported a 1989 model and was charged €1863 initially, reduced by €500 on appeal.
