Hi,
This is my first post so please go easy on me. About 22 months ago i became really bad at paying my bills basically through laziness and stupidity. I put everything on the long finger and ignored the letters coming through the post. This went on for about 6 months until i eventaully ended up owing AIB finance and leasing €8000, AIB Credit Card €7000, AIB Overdraft €3000, Credit Union €4500 and various utility bills. What i wasted this money on i dont know, but i basically blew it.
Since then i have organised myself a budget which i try to stick to and have repayed almost everything. I now owe AIB Credit card €2500, AIB Finance and Leasing €3000 and the Credit Union €600, everthing else has been cleared. What impact will all of this foolishness have on my ability to get a mortgage for a house in a year or two? If a bank does a credit check on me when i apply for a mortgage, will proof of repayment in full of all debts be sufficent or do i need to wait several years before applying? How far back does your credit record stretch?
Thanks alot,
As above - contact the ICB to get a copy of your records to see what they say. Lenders will look at these records and draw their own conclusions about your credit rating/worthiness from the data contained therein. If a bank does a credit check on me when i apply for a mortgage, will proof of repayment in full of all debts be sufficent or do i need to wait several years before applying?
Five years. Missed payments etc. will remain on file for up to five years from when they have been sorted out.How far back does your credit record stretch?
