Illness Benefit while on a career break.

I am currently on a career break unpaid and have been unwell recently. My doctor suggested I claim illness benefit which I didn’t even consider but does anyone know if I can while on a career break? I have plenty of PRSI to cover. I’m also going to recover in Spain for a few months so I presume I can’t claim while there. Thank you for reading and replying as I can’t find any information on my situation.

My reading of citizens information is you can go elsewhere in the eu while on illness benefit.
Re career beak aspect/ complication I have no idea

Why not just apply for it (via myWelfare) and let SW tell you whether or not you qualify? Your doctor will need to send certification electronically in to SW for your claim.
