Hi,

I'm working in the uk but may be made redundant so would move back home. Would i be entitled to JA or JB on Ireland?

I've worked in the uk since 04 having worked in Ireland from '97 - 04, all as a paye person paying PRSI in ireland and NI in the UK.

Thanks

It looks very likely that you would be entitled to JB here. It is much easier for you if you establish you right to Benefit in the UK first and then have it transferred to Ireland.

Apply in the UK and receive your frist payments there before returning.

Also make sure to keep record of NI number and records of all NI payments made while in the UK. They may be valuable later if claiming other benefits or can go towards pension

I believe you may be wrong there black sheep, my understanding is that a person would have needed to satisfy the conditions for unemployment benefit(in terms of contributions paid) based on 2007 this year and 2008 next year. Therefore the person would only qualify for JA and even then it would be based on a habitual residency condition.

You are right in saying, however, that his best bet would be to transfer his benefit from the uk BUT this will only last for 78days.

As the OP stated that she has been working in the UK since 2004 and is paying her NI contributions therefore she should be entitled to benefit
As regards the Habitual Residence Condition, the UK is part of the Common travel area so there is no question of HRC

If you are applying for Jobseeker's Benefit and need the contributions paid in another EU/EEA country to help you qualify, then your last contribution must have been in Ireland. This is not the situation in the OP’s case, so they can either claim in the UK & transfer, or apply for JA here.

I stated in my first post the OP should establish her right to Benefit as she appears to sufficient NI payments there and then transfer it to Ireland.

I don't see the problem with that

I clarified the guidelines with regard to someone such as the OP who has paid UK NI contributions and who need the contributions paid in another EU/EEA country to help them qualify if submitting their claim here.

I don’t see the problem with that.
