Hi

I live in a small town and a new gym has just opened. I was thinking of joining it and got a form to join. However when I looked at the form it said the gym was a 'club'. My question is if I join the 'club' do I become responsilbe for its debts etc if it closes down? I was in other sports clubs before and they were made limited liability companies so that the members where not responsible for its debts etc. All advice gratefully accepted. Thanks

Hi

No-one seems to have an answer to my question about gyms so far. Does anyone know of any where else I should try posting this question?

I think it's unlikely that members would be responsible for the gym's debts. You are not joining the company, merely availing of its services ie a customer.

I too think it is unlikely, however be wary if you are asked to sign a document with ' Acceptance of responsibility for debts' as a heading and always read the terms and conditions.

I don't know if you have considered this but you should also be aware that in joining this club you may well be asked to engage in group physical activities which could well involve sweating and even likely showering thereafter. I would advise anyone contemplating this kind of action to indeed be very wary.

Perhaps you should consider a consultation with your family solicitor first and certainly seek advice before signing any documents as aforesaid.

I think the simple answer is no.
