If assessed for tax refund, is it automatically done for previous year?

Hi
I cant find if this has been asked before, apologies if so.
Today we got a lovely cheque from revenue.
I never realised and would assume that all was in order, but sent in a Med1 before Christmas and it led to assessment of all tax.
Got refunded today for yr 2005 and 2006.
Should I now send p60 for yr end 2004, or do you think that was done automatically?
Living on one income (I am at home fulltime with two kids) and need all the funds we can.

Check that the details on the P21 balancing statements and the P60s for the relevant years match up. If you suspect that there is any discrepancy then contact Revenue to make sure that your tax affairs are kept up to date. Otherwise this year's nice surprise refund could be some future year's nasty tax demand!

Thanks for that Clubman, will they send a p21 statement or will I have to request?
Should I request a p21 for yr end 04 before I get onto them about refund owed or not?

If you got a refund cheque you should get a P21 in the post a few days later. Just got mine (2007 MED1) today after getting the refund lodged to the bank last week. You can also register for the PAYE Self Service online system and manage/review things from there too.
