IE7 / ftp problems

Hi all

Anyone experienced similar problems and can point me in the right direction?:

Using IE7 on Win Expo, and need to access files on an ftp site. Could not open any ftp site and following a helpdesk call now know that IE7 does not allow access. I've checked Tools, Internet Options and then
Advanced and can ensure that the following boxes are ticked;

* Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)
* Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)

I've also temporarily disabled Firewall and any other security blocks, to no avail.

The helpdesk insists I can fix this easily:
by clicking on the "Page" button, and choose the option "open ftp site in windows explorer". Unfortunately I don't have that option in my page menu!

I also downloaded some FTP software, but either I am not following the directions, or again, something is blocking it. When I try to connect, I get the Winsock error 10061, which relates to failure to connect.

Has anyone had any similar experience, I'm at my wits end!!

Chances are the Windows FTP client is already installed. Try:
  • Start -> Run -> cmd.exe
  • ftp ftp.foobar.com (or whatever the FTP server is)
and see what happens? If you are getting a "Winsock error 10061" then suggest that you are connecting to something at the other end but just not the right host.

What "helpdesk" are you referring to? One in your job or something?
