I would like to change my euro savings account into dollars. Is it possible to do this while keeping it in a bank in this country? If so where can I do this?

I looked into this a while ago.

Anglo (!) have (had?) dollar deposit accounts. It used to be listed on their website but I don't see it now.

BOI and AIB both offer some form of USD Hold account. I didn't opt for it so I'm not 100% on how it works, but the girl in AIB made out that operating it would not be as simple as operating a current account and used the phrase "held on your behalf".

Permanent TSB also offer USD deposit accounts, I can't link but you can see it under "Deposit Interest Rates" in "Savings and Investing".

All these generally aren't part of their main consumer offerings so you'll find yourself having to ask about them rather than finding an application form on the internet.

BoI offer a/c's in both US$ and in Stg.
You wouldn't use as a main a/c though, as there are charges for withdrawing.
Only use if you want to leave for a while. Any branch can give you the forms, but they are held in Global Markets (the International Dept)
