I want to rent rent out my (fully purchased) council house.

Hi there, could anybody please please give me some information on this, I have bought my local authority house outright about a year ago, I've tried but thus far failed to sell it, now I'm moving abroad for a few years and I am wondering if I can legally rent it out while I'm away. I know there are some conditions attached to re-sale of a local authority house, i.e I can't sell to a property investor, but can I myself rent it out???? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
Thanks Rave, you would think so wouldn't you, but the local authorities have some restrictions, for example I can't sell my house to an investor, I can only sell to somebody who is going to have it as their main place of residence, can you believe Ive asked my local authority can I rent it out and even they didn't seem too sure, organised or what..Thanks anyway rave
