I want to buy my council house ,but how ?

Hi there,
i am looking to buy my council , however i dont work but my fiance does . can anyone advise on how this all works ? do we require a mortgage or do we say, treble our normal rent payments??
Any advice wouod be greatly appreciated !

You'll only be able to buy your council house if the council are willing to sell it - they should be your first port of call.

Thanks, they are willing to sell it ,as it was allocated on medical grounds for my daughter who has a serious illness .
 
Ok, first of all let them know that you want to buy it. They will then arrange for a valuation to be done on the house and will send you the asking price. You have a year then to arrange a mortgage against it. That's how it worked for me.
