There was an LP I listened to as a child with classics like "She swallowed a fly" and "who shot cock robin", anyone know the name of it or something similar?

Hi Car

I remember the "old lady who swallowed a fly" song. I think it was sung by Peter Paul and Mary, maybe sung by Burl Ives too.

I just remember the song and would have heard it on the radio and not have had records/discs of it.

Am aware of "who killed cock robin" but more as a nursery rhyme I read to my children.

Burl Ives is the man you want, he also sang another humuorous ditty about the "Ugly bugs ball" -classic!

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly,

I don't know why she swallowed a fly,

perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,

I don't know why she swallowed the fly,

Perhaps she'll die.

And so on with a bird, cat, dog, cow, horse, burst!

Its a book too, my daughter loves it, macabre and all as it is.

That Burl Ives song was played on RTE Radio 1 yesterday evening just before 6.30 on their childrens' programme. I used to have an LP with those songs years ago too - happy memories!!
