I wanted to share some information with those of you who may have been working abroad and returned, or anyone who is still abroad. I had an insurance against unemployment with my mortgage provider which I paid non stop since I bought the apartment. I was laid off abroad and returned back to Ireland only to learn that the insurance was not valid for me as I had been working overseas and my mortgage repayments were not covered.
However, because I had proof that I had changed my address and informed them when I first went abroad, I was due a reimbursement of all the premiums that I had been paying those years when in fact I was not covered. The bank didnt volunteer this information and only when I pressed them on this issue and asked for an explanation, they actually came back with a full refund of nearly 4800 euros!!!
If you pay for any insurance that you arent actually covered for, you are entitled to get that money back and I understand that the ombudsman is getting very strict with regards to insurance.
