I have decided to go part-time in my job. My boss has kindly said I can do so.
My question is would I be entitled to claim anything if I decide to work three days a week? A girl who came to work in my office started off on a three day week with us (she was full-time in her previous job) and she signs on for the other two days (She doesn't want to discuss details, which is understandable). But another girl who works there says I wouldn't be entitled to anything as I requested to go part-time bu yet another friend who is on Jobseekers says I would be entitled to 'claim my stamps'? (I'm not sure what that means though!)
I have worked in this job full-time for just over 10 years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You wouldn't be entitled, because it is your choice to go part time.
To claim you have to have to be looking for full time employment, so that would rule you out.
If you voluntary put yourself on a 3 day week I doubt you would get a sausage....the whole ethos of JSA/JSB is you have to be actively seeking full time employment.
There's no such thing as something for nothing.
I'd love to do a 3 day week and get pocket money for the days I didn't work.. it would be a pretty nice lifestyle.
It is understandable , why your work colleague does not want to discuss the details of her 2 day signing-on , as she was obviously in the situation , that you now want to be in.
You say you have a kind boss who agrees to place you on a 3-day week , so your qualification for JSB could depend on what your employer decides to say in writing to your local SW office .
Thank you for the replies. The only reason I want to cut back my hours is that my job is quite stressful and I'm really starting to feel the pressure and don't want to end up on disability certs for stress or something in the future; I'd rather earn less and stay sane for the moment!
Telling my boss this is out of the question (would be held against me). I know I said he kindly agreed, but that is only because he usually doesn't 'kindly agree' to anything! I haven't really told him a proper reason other than vaguely saying I want more time to spend with family etc. I have, of course, been looking for another job but no chance lately!
