Hi
Hope someone out there can help. My husband had been on JSB and was refused JSA in January because of my earnings. I currently take home 630 euro a week over 4 days. Our mortgage is quite high and we are finding it difficult to meet all our other bills. Along with this I am finding work very stressful and I am feeling unwell and depressed as a result. Wile we need my money coming in, I have seen another job advertised that is just two days a week and it would be less stressful. If I was to move would my huband then get JSA and would I be entitledto something from social welfare?

Thank you for advice. I will try the money makeover section.

I am nursing and I love it, but staff are not being replaced now when they are out sick or go on mat. leave and it is just so busy. I am working up to 2 hours over my shift evey day and I am exhausted when I get home and it is sressing me. I really need to work less hours but I dont think my manager would allow me, as she wouldnt be able to cover the shifts. I know it seems selfish but I would like to leave and do the 2 day week in the job I saw advertied. But I would not be earning the same amount of money and we are already struggling with our bills. I feel thet I would need to get help from social welare, but would I or my husband be entitled to anything?

Try to stop working the 2 hours over your shift. Cut it back gradually if you have to like 15 mins at a time. Talk to your manager about it. Let them know it has to stop or you will have to consider leaving. I bet they won't want to lose you.

Thanks I know I need to speak with her. She knows herself how busy it is. Alot of it is out of her control. The number of patients atteding has just increased so much and the staffing leves havent gone up and and with the embargo on recruitment in the HSE there isnt going to be anymore staff. If I was to reduce my hours would i be entitled to help from social welfare or if I was to change to a 2 day week job would my husband or I be entitled to anything???

Its kinda hard to answer that question. Generally speaking, if you suffer a loss of employment you can apply for Jobseekers Benefit (subject to PRSI cons) for the days you are not working. So if your employer reduced your hours, then its possible. However, if you reduce your working hours yourself then you haven't suffered a loss. Also to qualify for JB you should be available and genuinely seeking work on the days you are not working.

RE JA for your husband. That depends how much you will be earning for the 2 days you will be working in the prospective new job. You require that figure to work out the means assessed.

If you have dependent children FIS might be an option if you will be working over 19 hours per week. In your current position unless you have 3 plus children, you will be above the income threshold for FIS on your current income.
