In a case of alleged theft of €400 which is having a devastating impact on the accused's career, the earliest available hearing date is almost 2 years away - 18 April 2022.

Due to the Covid crisis and the backlog of cases before the courts, only cases involving senior counsel are being given pre-trial hearings. Mr O’Higgins will be defended by Michael O’Higgins SC, the court heard, while Ronan Kennedy SC is prosecuting the case.

That is a long time to have a case hanging over one's head.

The carer who raped the elderly woman in a care home on 3 April this year, was sentenced yesterday. But he had pleaded guilty.

It didn't mention anything about being suspended.

I presume not. Do minor criminal cases result in a solicitor being suspended?

If he weren't suspended you'd imagine the press coverage wouldn't be great for business. Sometimes there is such thing as bad publicity.
