how to varnish the decking

hi,
i am anything but a handyman but ive decided to varnish the decking. it hasnt been looked after that well for the last couple of years so i have power washed it. i need to do the sides and the floor, do i need different varnish for the floor and different varnish for the sides. as you see i havent a clue, any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

DON'T VARNISH - it will crack & peel & you will need to sand it down to redo....once it's done, really hard to undo.

You need to get a decking oil....any woodies, atlantic store will be able to advise you. Scrub it down to get off any moss & dirt, then simply paint it on (all exposed bits)....you really need to do this every year or two to ensure the wood will last long term.

or even better than painting the oil on, use a hard brush to brush it on - far easier on the hands and knees!
