I work in accounts payable and payroll on a 5 day week. I

The job I am in could really be reduced to 3 days as I find on a Monday and Tuesday that I am now getting to the stage where I can no longer think of things to pass the time. All the accounts are now up-to-date and it is really starting to get me down sitting here and scratching my head to find something to do.

I really would like to tell my boss that this job could essentially be completed (and completed well) in a 3 day week.

Does anyone have any idea how I could word this to my boss or do I just leave it and try and get another busier job?

He could end up moving the job completely to the head office and then I would be out of work…..

Thanks

V.

As you said, you might loose your job if suggested or you might get the work week reduced, with a reduced salary Will you be happy about it?. What about trying something else to do? Many other departments might need some extra help? If i were you, I'd enjoy the quiet time for a while.

Well I think it would be counter productive to phrase it in the way you have in your post to your boss.
Why not ask instead for extra duties.
If you took a three day week you would loose 2/5 of your salary and still have the same amount of work to do.
In my opinion asking for a few new tasks would be far better.

If you are otherwise happy in the job why not ask your boss for more responsibilities/work rather than drawing attention to the fact that you are underworked right now? Or maybe there are things that need to be done that you could unilaterally take on and then show your boss/the company how your initiative helped contribute to the company's success? Or do you mean you would like a three day week? There's always Solitaire and Minesweeper!

Post crossed with previous ones but on the same track.

Why not ask your boss if you can log in and work from home on Monday and Tuesday with people able to contact you on your mobile? This means you can do what you want those days and still present a full work week on Friday!!
