Just wondering if anyone has a method of removing nail varnish from a coffee table? Its the white stuff that is used in french manicure. Has dried in greyish. Any tips?

Birch. It's a gecko coffee table "antique birch"..1 day old. Spilled the white part of the french manicure set. Wiped with paper, used fairy liquid and soapy wood cleaner. Left with a milky/grey stain. Was afraid nail varnish remover would strip the table! Any tips?

1 day old

The nail varnish remover will probably be too harsh.

I've used stuff called [broken link removed]which was available in Dunnes. Not sure if it is suitable for birch but you could give it a try on the underneath part of the table to see if it hides the problem.

Thats sounds like the stain is 'in' the surface if the table.
Without seeing it or knowing what the finish on the table is, you could try a couple of nail varnish removers in a hidden area first. Look for 'Non-acetone' based ones, traditional acetone will strip polish.

Before you try that, you could try baby wipes. They generally have an alcohol based solvent in them so they are quite good at removing stains (we cleaned all the plaster off our windows/window frames with them.

As posted above, try on a hidden area first in case it also removes the stain from the wood.

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately neither baby wipes or nail varnish remover worked as stain now 1 day old and coffee table 2 days old!!! Topps scratch cover polish on my shopping list for tomorrow. At the moment just covering it with coaster, but that doesn't even cover all of it! Needless to say, teenage daughter has had her last french manicure!
