Hi guys,
Asking here in-case anybody else has some insight, unfortunately Revenue phone lines are closed because of C19 and the VRT office defer to Revenue on these queries.
I am importing a car from the UK as a VAT registered company, it is less than 6 months old so VAT is payable in Ireland. The first query is where/when is VAT paid on this car. I assumed it was at the VRT appointment, but the VRT office are saying it can (should?) be paid afterward - can this be done as part of our next VAT return?
A further complexity is that the car is electric so 20% of the VAT is reclaimable, again I wonder if anybody has insight on how this is achieved? Will the VRT office provide a VAT payable figure that is 80% of the total VAT due, or do we just account for 20% of the VAT in our next return.
Any thoughts appreciated!
