How to Paint Straight Border on Outside Wall?

I intend to soon paint a border on the bottom of an outside wall. My approach is to draw the line using a pencil and then try to keep within the line with my brush.

I'm not so sure the line will be straight though. Is there a masking tape for outside masonary walls or any other bright ideas?

Use a chalk line for the line to get it straight? and i would think the masking tape would be fine

For a horizontal line use string and a level to get your straight line, put masking tape along this line, remove the string, paint, remove the tape.

For vertical use a plumb line.
