Hi, need to move a fairly large piece of furniture a fairly short distance - its just too small to fit in our car so wondering has anyone any clever idea - like putting it on wheels and pulling it or something?!! Thanks.

Maybe you could borrow one from a local shopkeeper if you know them well? Otherwise maybe an equipment hire place could rent one?

toby where are you located I know someone who may still have one

Moving items depends on two things, what the item is, size, weight, etc, and what ground it has to cover, flat, rough, steps etc.
There are many solutions possible, pallet truck being one, but only if all the ground to be covered is almost perfectly flat, forklift is another, mabye a roofrack? (watch for height clearance) It all depends....

Im in Dublin 14

Roof rack might work -- we have one on a Passat estate - it'd be fierce hard to get this thing up on it though - its wood and measures 44" X 74", would that be too heavy for car anyone know?

If it's really a short distance then a couple of round wooden ( or iron if too heavy) sticks and roll it along, keep taking the stick from the back and putting it in front again. Almost caveman tactics but sometimes needs must.

Have a look at local ads there may be a man with a van who will do it for you. Even if it is only a short distance it may well be the best option instead of you doing yourself an injury trying to move it

Anything over 75kg or there about would be too much for a roof rack.

If the ground to be covered is reasonably smooth, perhaps you could cut a couple of pieces of 3/4" ply to 44" by 12", and screw a [broken link removed] to each corner of these to make something like [broken link removed]. Place one of these under each end, and roll away. Many of the moving companies use these to move heavy items.

We did this with my sister's large wooden shed to move it from one corner of her back garden to another. It gave me an idea of how those slaves felt building the pyramids!

thanks for all the suggestions!

might be looking at finding a man + van cheap, think it'd be too deep for a handtruck

Look in the southside people. You will get a man in a van to move it no problrm.
