How to go about Career Change

I’ve worked in private industry for most of my 20 years of working life(pretty much for the same organization). I’ve worked hard and given lot to the organization and believe that I have been successful in my career to date. I have been treated well by the organisation too

I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years and have gone with the flow over the years and attempted to rise to the changes and challenges that the organization has presented and asked me to deliver on

Once again changes seem to be a foot in the organization

I’m coming to the way of thinking that maybe my days with this organization are numbered. I feel that it’s getting harder to survive, keep up with the pace, expectations, stresses and asks. I believe I may have plateau’ed and am heading onto a possible slippery slope.

With changes in the pipeline I may find myself doing something I don’t really want to do or find myself placed in a role that I’m not up to delivering the challenges or expectations of it – or no longer have the interest in, with the possibility of 'move on or move out' conversations creeping into the equation.

The big 40 is also looming fast . I’m thinking that I need to start coming up with and laying the foundations for plan B for a possible life outside of this organization in the next couple of years doing something that will interest me, give me peace of mind, make me happy and still pay the bills - a labour of love possibly ;)

However I haven’t a clue where to start or how to figure out what I could do or where I could go or if my qualifications and skill set are totally obsolete now. It’s a long time till retirement seeing as we all won’t be retiring at 60-65 anymore. I can’t and guess don’t want to see myself hobbling into current role on my zimmer frame when I’m 70-75 :)

Has anyone else found themselves or finds themselves in this situation or a similar one?.

How did you go about figuring out where to go or what to do and has it worked out and are you happy ?

Someone has suggested possibly working with a career/life coach. That sounds like good plan to engage with a professional. Anybody know of any reputable, good career/life coaches who you could recommend or have worked with yourself and seen results

Thanks
