Hi Everyone,

I recently completed a Higher Cert in Financial Services and would love to get a job in a bank at the front desk as a teller? I belive is what the correct name is for the position.

I was wondering how I go about getting this position? I have gone onto every banks website and none of the jobs are for such a position.

Would I be best off to just go into a branch with my CV and ask for the manager? or what do you think is the best way to go about it?

A friend recently got a job with a bank, through CPL recruitment agency. Would be worth getting in touch with them.

@Purple-I thought that also but a friend of a friend just got a job with PTSB

@dmos87-I have tried with cpl a few times but all I ever get is something along the lines of ''You have great experience and a very good CV but you are not what we are looking for at the moment''

From what I know, a Third Level degree with a 2:1 is required. At least, it was for my friend to be considered.

Banks in general don't hire specifically for teller positions, you could be pretty much doing any job they want you to, if you were QFA qualified you would be more valuable as you could sell certain products. Apply to them all for entry level positions, AIB were hiring until recently and I think still are, a lot of these new staff ended up in teller positions (can't imagine why you would love that though!).

Have a look at this [broken link removed] - go towards the end of it as it's been running for ages.

WBBS- thanks for your help :) part of the reason I want a bank job is the hours, I am also a personal trainer and so I can keep my clients for evenings and weekends and make some cash money ;)

I know a few people who got jobs in teller positions in banks via credit unions.

I believe there is a volunteer program within Credit Unions whereby volunteers worked in Credit Unions for free on late opening nights and Saturdays to gain work experience and then used that experience to get full time jobs in Credit Unions and indeed banks.

This was a few years back now so I am unsure it the volunteer system still happens within Credit Unions.

One thing to note thought... Teller positions within banks is very lowly paid. Barely above minimum wages but there are oppurtunities to rise.
Obviously less so at the minute but cream will always rise to the top.

Go to any recruitment agency site right now and they are advertising banking positions, they are very short term as they are Ulster Bank positions to try and get them up to date after their recent difficulties but foot in the door and all that!
