How to find out if a broker actually applied to certain banks

Hi Guys

A good friend was recently turned down for a very small re-mortgage. Initially she was told that it would be no problem, at the end of the day the broker came back and told her everybody had refused application. Long story short, she since went to another broker (company) they put in application and almost every bank/building society gave her the re-mortgage. Broker company have told her that they don't believe that he applied to any of the companies that he said he did. Can she write to each bank and ask if somebody submitted her application previously?
 
Clearly the original broker did not send application to all banks. One applicant, one application generally, so it's next to impossible to have a mortgage refuseed by a lender, and a few months later have it 're-approved'.

Seems like the first broker was telling porkies.

So is the mortgage going through now?
 
Has she a reason for doing it, other than a very understandable curiosity? She now knows that the first broker did not do a good job, and the second broker did the business. If she wishes to make a complaint to somebody like the Financial Services Ombudsman, then it for the the ombudsman's office to conduct its own investigation.
 
Not wanting to defend broker, but unless she incurred a financial loss or was in anyway put out by the failed initial service, I wouldn't worry too much. Some brokers are good, some are useless.

Complaints to IFSRA or The Ombudsman are too plentiful and in vain in most circumstances.
 
Cannot go into details here lads but a sizable sum of money was handed over for 'fees' to the broker which is why she needs to take this further. (ps no she didn't know how brokers work and fell for what one guy told her)

Well then, I'd advise her to keep track of all correspondence to and from the broker and to contact the ombudsman immediately.
